7:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017

Oakland Acres Maintenance Building

 

Call Meeting to Order:  Mayor Lennie Smith called the council meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Roll Call:  Ted Schultz, Terry Morrison, Doug Weaver and Heath Collett. Absent: Don Smith.
Also present: Lori Smith, city clerk.

Inquiries from the Community:  Have heard the two empty lots have been sold in the community in the last few months. Had a question about the possibility of changing ownership on a small piece of property that was once a city well. Will research further and involve the Planning and Zoning Committee.  Also a concern about a resident's camper and mowing.  The city will maintain and mow the path area near Oak Drive.  Will send letters out to offending residents following clean up days in May.

Approval of Minutes: Weaver moved to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2017, meeting. Schultz seconded.  Ayes: All.

Treasurer’s Report:  Schultz moved to approve the March report as submitted. Collett seconded. Ayes:  All.

Payment of Bills:  Collett moved to approve payment of the bills as submitted.  Morrison seconded.  Ayes:  All.

Mayor’s Opening Address and Report:  None.

Old Business

Street Naming:  Schultz reviewed the city ordinance concerning naming streets.  Will check with the Courthouse on registration costs and will turn name options to Planning and Zoning for review.

Easter Egg Hunt:  Hunt will be held in the park on Saturday at 2 p.m. sharp.

Spring Clean-Up and Garage Sales: Have dumpsters from May 1-12 and the city-wide garage sale on May 6.  Thanks to everyone in observing the rules for using the dumpsters in 2016.  Mayor Smith will call Dodd's for dumpster.

New Business

New Housing Building Code:  Schultz had contacted the Iowa League of Cities concerning container housing and other housing issues.  Should forward to Planning and Zoning committee about updating our ordinances.

Clubhouse Liquor License:  Schultz made a motion to approve the Oakland Acres Golf Club's liquor license from June 2017 until June 2018. Collett seconded.  Ayes:  All.

ECIC Meeting:  No interest in attending the May meeting.

Council Report:  None.

Clerk Report:   Received a check for $270 from the clerk of court for fines.

Maintenance Report:  Got new front tires on the tractor and cleaned up the maintenance building. Will review mowing requirements, rock on roadways, etc. with Matt Innis this weekend.  Battery on the tractor may need to be replaced as well. Will also pick up sticks on the pathway. Talked about taking down the dead oak trees on the area near the golf course. Will work on this during the year.  Sand barrels will be removed from the roadways soon.

Adjournment: Schultz moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:53 p.m.  Weaver seconded.  Ayes:  All.
