Mayor’s Opening
Address and Report: The mayor handed
out notebooks to each council member to keep all council documents and notes
together. GRMC Ball Drop at the
clubhouse went well and was well attended.
Will try to have golf course let us know of special events that
community members may attend. Also
discussed the possible need to be able to reserve the park shelter house.
Old Business
Road Repair: Still have not
heard of a firm date for repair for the end of Fore
Seasons Drive. Talked to the post office
and they suggested that the affected residents place mail on hold during the
repair work time. Joyce contacted the golf course regarding carts, and they
will be available.
Ordinances: Mayor Smith asked that council members review
the second section of the ordinances, p. 45-72, before the August meeting.
Clerk will send an electronic link to the ordinances.
New Business
Iowa League
Conference: The
yearly conference is set for September 24-26, 2014, in Council Bluffs. Mayor Smith would like to attend. The council
would like to table a final decision until the August meeting, so everyone can
review the information.
Newsletter: The council reviewed the July 2014
newsletter, and approved it to be mailed out to residents.
Tiling: Areas need to be
tiled where it tends to wash out along Parkview and Fore
Seasons Drive. May be able to use part of our FEMA funds to make a more
permanent solution. Weaver brought up
the topic of having an expert determine what needs to be done, including a new
culvert at the bottom of the first hill on Fore
Seasons Drive. Mayor Smith will check
with Earthworks to get an idea of the scope of the project before opening it up
for bids.
Siren: The siren did
not go off during the recent tornado warning.
A fuse had blown, and Mayor Smith contacted Sieck
Electric to make repairs. They will make
the repair when they have use of a boom truck.
Mayor Smith will check with the Jasper County EMS about the possibility
of getting funds toward a new siren, as the siren is very outdated. A notification will be posted on Facebook when the siren is repaired.
EMS meeting: A county meeting
will be held on Wednesday, July 16, at 9 a.m.
Mayor Smith plans to attend to see what, if anything, can be done if
Jasper County is declared a disaster area.
IMWCA
Resolution: Fisher made a
motion to adopt the resolution as read to become a member of IMWCA - a workers'
compensation insured group. Halblom seconded.
Ayes: All
Council Report:
Arthur
contacted a member of the community concerning a loose dog. The situation has improved. Easements still need to be researched. Will place on the docket for the August
meeting.
Clerk Report: Received a check for our portion of a building
permit for the golf club. Brought up ideas for plantings for the dam to
eliminate the need for mowing. Joyce
will contact DNR about possible planting options.
Maintenance Report:
Have
placed rock on shoulders around the community.
Need to purchase a few more railroad ties to complete repairs along
Shoreline Drive. Smith sprayed the rocks
for weeds around the swings in the parks and the parking area at the
maintenance building. Weaver brought up
a complaint about the concrete at the top of the dam. Lennie has contacted Chuck Griffith to help
him move the concrete to the bottom of the dam with his skid loader. Discussed options for dealing with this
issue. Clerk will draft a letter
updating the citizen. Council discussed
options for updating park equipment, and sending out a thank you to Vicki Brand
for weed whipping the park.
Adjournment:
Schultz moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:28 p.m. Fisher seconded. Ayes:
All.
The next regular
meeting of the Oakland Acres City Council is scheduled on Monday, August 11,
2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Oakland Acres Maintenance Building.
These minutes
are as recorded by the City Clerk and are subject to council approval at the
next City Council meeting.
