Mayor’s Opening
Address and Report: Want to welcome
a new resident to Oakland Acres, Ron Nott.
Also have construction on a new home on Shoreline Drive.
Old Business
Ordinances and Issues: Yards have been cleaned up. Thank you.
Still need to contact Planning and Zoning on housing ordinance updates.
Maintenance
and Mowing: Discussed
the differences between a "contractor" and a part-time employee. Based on the IRS rules, the current
mowing/maintenance position would fall under a seasonal part-time
employee. This position for the rest of
the year will be directed by Lennie Smith.
Will work on putting new rubber mulch in playground, removing sand
containers, and killing thistles on the dam.
Dead
tree removal: Have talked to Andy Heishman. Contacted realtor and will take homeowner's
trees down at the same time. Will set up a time for Lennie to remove the trees,
as someone is willing to take the wood. Also have a few dead along dam to cut
down.
New Business
Iowa
League of Cities conference: No interest in
attending this year.
Lake
Maintenance Options:
Will look at getting more algae eating fish into the lake. Also, a reminder that swimming is not allowed
in the lake.
Council
Report: None.
Clerk Report: None.
Maintenance Report: Need to replace the "No Outlet"
sign that was knocked down this winter.
We also want to replace the posts across the dam. Collett checked on the cost to replace with
pipe and concrete to make it durable. The
material quote was for 6" pipe is $2.99 per foot, with 5' post sections
(three underground and two above ground) and cost of the caps are $13 each,
plus the cost of concrete. Need to decide
on spacing to determine cost. May want
to add reflective tape to the posts to increase visibility. Will get a firm quote when the area is
measured. Will apply for the ICAP safety grant to help with the costs.
Weaver made a motion to spend up to $1,000 in June to purchase materials for
new posts on the dam. Schultz seconded.
Ayes: All.
Adjournment: Schultz moved to adjourn the meeting at
7:43 p.m. Collett seconded. Ayes: All.
These minutes
are as recorded by the City Clerk and are subject to council approval at the
next City Council meeting.
